This is defiantly a bug. I've play h2 much more than enough to know that. Before the MCC. Came out i went back and played legend solo and coop and this wasn't an problem it never has actually been. I think there is skull that causes that though.
in the initial halo 2 game, if you play co-op on legendary, if one human being dies, you restart come the critical checkpoint. Personally i think its an ext fun and challenging because now you need to work through your friend to obtain past the level. Not just die and respawn until you acquire through one area the a level...
